Norristown School District Superintendent to Read to Children at MELC Norristown 4/23/09

In celebration of the Week of the Young Child (April 20-24), Dr. Janet Samuels, the superintendent of Norristown School District, will be reading to the children of Montgomery Early Learning Centers on Thursday, April 23rd at 11am. In addition, a representative from the office of Senator Daylin Leach, 17th District (D – Montgomery/Delaware), will be on hand to read.

The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to focus attention on the needs of young children and recognize the early childhood programs that meet those needs. As part of the One Book, Every Young Child program, the visitors will be reading If You Were a Penguin by Wendell and Florence Minor. The program seeks to show the importance of early literacy development in preschoolers and show them that reading can be fun. These special visitors come to Montgomery Early Learning Centers through the efforts of Montgomery County Child Care Consortium. The Consortium has worked successfully to bring local child care centers, social services, businesses and legislators together with the Norristown School District in order to create a seamless system for children and families to move from preschool to the school setting.
