Curriculum and sample schedules for pre-schoolers

All Wonderspring centers utilize The Creative Curriculum and the Second Step Social Emotional Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool, Guided Edition is a comprehensive, research-based curriculum that features hands-on, project-based investigations as a pathway to learning. It includes:

•  Developmentally appropriate activities that can be adjusted to meet individual children’s needs
• Transition songs and rhymes that help support children’s abilities to follow directions
• A diverse selection of books that give opportunities for early literacy skills

The Creative Curriculum uses a project-based approach to learning.  Children will explore topics called “studies” over the course of 4-6 weeks. During a study, teachers support children’s learning about the topic by planning interactive activities, reading books, and documenting children’s learning.

Teachers collect ongoing child observations to help create lesson plans and help each child meet his or her learning goals.

Second Step Social Emotional Learning Curriculum is designed for children ages 3-5. It includes daily activities that teach children the following social emotional skills:

• Empathy
• Impulse Control
• Calming Down
• Assertiveness
• Emotion Management
• Emotion Recognition
• Problem Solving
• Communication

These skills are taught using songs, games, puppets and brain breaks.  Parents will receive a weekly summary of the Second Step activities to support practicing these skills at home.
